Day 51: Chapter 27 – A Sudden Change of Plans   (p.314-318)       (Silly Disobedience)

(first half of chapter)

1. Why did Yun return to Myanmar (p.314)

2. What dream did Yun receive from the Lord? (p.315)

3. How did Isaac get separated from them? (p.315)

4. What did the students say about his leaving? (p.315)

5. But what did Deling counsel? (p.316)

6. Yet why did he reject her advice and ignore the dream? (p.316)

7. What then happened at the airport? (p.316,317)

8. What did Yun realise? (p.317)

9. What counsel does he give Christian workers? (p.317,318)

 

Prayer:

  •  Acknowledge your own vulnerability to relying on your own strength and your own wisdom, and ask the Lord to help you learn the lessons that Yun spoke about.
  •  Thank the Lord that even though we get it wrong He is still there working for our good in it (Rom 8:28) and He doesn't reject us. Thank Him that Jesus intercedes for us (1 Jn 2:1) and is wanting us to be restored.
  •  Pray for Christian leaders, that the Lord will keep them from pride and self-sufficiency.

Day 52: Chapter 27 – A Sudden Change of Plans     (p.318-324)      (Beaten)

(second half of chapter)

1. Why did they think Yun was a spy? (p.318)

2. What did they do to Yun? (p.319)

3. How was he comforted? (p.320)

4. What did Deling feel about his arrest? (p.321)

5. Why were they limited in their travelling? (p.321)

6. How long were they on the run? (p.321)

7. How did they eventually cross the border to Thailand? (p.321-323)

8. What special guidance did the Lord give Deling? (p.323)

9. How did they eventually get to Germany? (p.323,324)

 

Prayer:

  •  Acknowledge before the Lord that, so often, we bring misfortunes upon ourselves by our unwise actions.
  •  Recognise that although our salvation may not be threatened yet we can bring troubles upon ourselves by our own folly – yes, even as Christians!
  •   Confess such things to the Lord if you are aware of them, and ask for His forgiveness and restoration, which is just a second away, even though there may be consequences that have to be worked through with His grace.

Additional Point to Ponder: I am an earthen vessel and I get it wrong. Thank God that He never abandons me.

Day 53: Chapter 28 – A Seed in the Ground   (p.325-330)        (Prison)

(first third of chapter)

1. What documents helped confirm who Yun was? (p.325)

2. How did Yun avoid contact with the Chinese embassy? (p.325,326)

3. Where was he sent and what was it like? (p.327)

4. How did he see this fitted God's plan? (p.328)

5. What did they want him to do, along with the other prisoners, each day? (p.328)

6. How did he resist that? (p.329)

7. What effect did that start having on the other prisoners? (p.329.330)

 

Prayer:

  •  Thank the Lord that His wisdom is available to us, wherever we are, to help us know how to respond to the current circumstances.
  •  Thank Him that He has said He will never leave us or forsake us – wherever we are and whatever is happening.
  •  Ask for His grace – His resources to triumph – for any difficult circumstances you may be facing. Expect and look for His supplies. Thank Him in anticipation of them coming.

Additional Point to Ponder: Is it possible that I can learn to rejoice in weakness so that His strength flows through me?

Day 54: Chapter 28 – A Seed in the Ground    (p.330-336 )        (Positive Prison)

(second third of chapter)

1. What did Yun do for the other prisoners? (p.330)

2. What did he eventually realise about his situation? (p.330,331)

3. What was happening in his cell and how did it effect Yun? (p.331,332)

4. What sentence did he receive and how was that ‘put in perspective'? (p.332)

5. How did contact with some Chinese speaking prisoners come about? (p.333,334)

6. How was he able to bring them to the Lord? (p.334,335)

7. How did his ill-health help him? (p.335,336)

 

Prayer:

  •  Thank the Lord for His grace that enabled Yun to have a positive outlook on his prison time.
  •  Thank Him for enabling Yun to be His witness and draw others to the Lord.
  •  Ask the Lord to enable you to reach out to those around you in your life, with God's love and salvation.
  •  Pray for the Christians in countries suffering persecution and imprisonment, that they will continue to receive God's grace to bring salvation.

Additional Point to Ponder: God's grace is here for me today, whatever is happening, to enable me to be His witness and glorify Him. Hallelujah!

Day 55: Chapter 28 – A Seed in the Ground      (p.336-341)      (Release)

(final third of chapter)

1. How did the Christian prisoners change? (p.336)

2. How did Yun now feel about his prison sentence, and why? (p.337)

3. What did he feel the Lord was showing him about his sentence? (p.338)

4. How did he come to be released? (p.338,339)

5. What additional blessing occurred? (p.339,340)

6. How did Deling ‘see' that Yun was to be released? (p.341)

 

Prayer:

  •  Thank the Lord that He rules over the affairs of men.
  •  See your whole life as under His spotlight – the good and the bad – and ask Him to open your eyes to have a new awareness of His hand on your life.
  •  Commit the good and the bad of your life to Him and be at peace in the knowledge that He is the Lord of your life.

Additional Point to Ponder:  Dare I believe it, that whatever happens in life, Jesus is there ruling over it and working to bring good out of it?
