Day 46: Chapter 25 – Reflecting on Four Years in the West    (p.293-296)       (Coldness)

(first third of chapter)

1. Why did the Lutheran church service seem strange to Yun? (p.293)

3. What initially were his primary concerns in Frankfurt? (p.294)

Prayer:

  •  Ask the Lord to help you lower your defensive barriers to be able to receive Yun's words in this first part of the chapter, and to be honest about your state and the state of the church.
  •  Ask the Lord to send His word and His Spirit and His fire to set the church in the West on fire.
  •  Submit yourself to Him as fully as you are able, asking Him to fill you afresh with His word and His Spirit, committing yourself to His will.

Day 47: Chapter 25 – Reflecting on Four Years in the West    (p.297-300)   (Need in the West)

(second third of chapter)

1. How important does Yun consider our sharing the Gospel is? (p.297)

2. What does he say about giving? (p.297, 298)

3. What common characteristics did he see in the strong churches in the West? (p.298)

4. What two things did he reiterate Christians in the West need to do? (p.299)

5. Why does he consider signs and wonders are rarely seen in churches in the West? (p.299,300)

 

Prayer:

•  Confess to the Lord your fears or doubts about sharing the Gospel. Ask the Lord to equip you with His love to share it with others.

•  Ask the Lord to help you be honest about your giving and your finances. Ask the Lord to release faith in you to be a generous giver.

•  Similarly ask Him to show you the reality of your feelings about reaching out to other countries. Ask Him to give you a new vision for this.

Day 48: Chapter 25 – Reflecting on Four Years in the West    (p.300-304)     (Mother & Family)

(final third of chapter)

1. In her early seventies how was Yun's mother wonderfully healed? (p.300)

2. How did her second healing in 1996 come about? (p.300,301)

3. How did her third healing in 1998 come about? (p.301)

4. How was her eventual funeral such an event? (p.301,302)

5. What point does Deling make in her testimony in the closing part of this chapter? (p.303,304)

 

Prayer:

  •  If you are a mother, ask that you may have the Lord's blessing to bless your children and bring them up in the real knowledge of the Lord.
  •  Observe those who are sick that you know and ask the Lord to bring healing to them in such a way that He will be glorified.
  •  Ask that you may be clearly used to bring life transformations by the Lord's enabling, first to your family, then to those around you, and finally to others further afield.
  •  Commit your children to the Lord, seeking His blessing on their lives. Pray for them daily.

Day 49: Chapter 26 – A New Kind of Persecution    (p.305-309)   (Persecution warned & experienced)

(first half of chapter)

1. Where was Yun speaking in later 2000? (p.305)

2. What three forms did the demonic spirit come in, in his dream? (p.305,306)

3. How did he interpret the first spirit (the rat) and its activity? (p.306)

4. How did he interpret the second (rooster) and third (woman) spirits? (p.306)

5. What then happened to cause upset? (p.306,307)

6. What were the specific accusations made by the ‘Chinese informant'? (p.307)

7. How were these accusations able to be refuted? (p.308)

 

Prayer:

  •  Dare you ask the Lord to search your heart against wrong things said against brothers or sisters in Christ?
  •  Where you recognise you have indeed spoken negative or hostile words about other Christians, ask God for forgiveness.
  •  Ask the Lord to teach you to guard your lips to avoid speaking negatively about any brother or sister in Christ.
  •  Ask the Lord to give you wisdom and grace to gently correct others who speak negatively about their brothers and sisters.

Day 50: Chapter 26 – A New Kind of Persecution    (p.309-313)     (Suffering for the Gospel)

(second half of chapter)

1. How was Brother Xu able to speak of Yun? (p.309)

2. How did he sum up Yun? (p.310)

3. What did Yun say about suffering and the Christian? (p.310)

4. What different ways did he say Christians try to cope with suffering? (p.310,311)

5. How does he say we should deal with suffering and opposition? (p.311)

6. What sort of ‘seminary' does he say Chinese Christians go through? (p.311,312)

7. What does he say is a worse form of suffering than prison? (p.312)

8. What was his attitude about Christians in prison? (p.312,313)

 

Prayer:

  •  For those of us in the comfort of the West, if we are to be real, we need to confess that we probably find much of what Yun says in the second half of this chapter difficult.
  •  Thank the Lord for your freedom and ask that He may be able to teach you and use you and develop you without persecution.
  •  Thank Him that if persecution comes in the West, His grace WILL be sufficient for you.
  •  Ask for grace and wisdom to know how to be a light where you are, not giving people cause to oppose you, beyond your goodness and grace!

Additional Point to Ponder: By God's goodness I may live in a persecution free period. May I not take it for granted.
