Brief Synopsis:

  

•  Edom is challenged over having gloated over Israel 's devastation by foreign powers. And being proud over her own security,
•  This will bring God's wrath so she will be destroyed, but Mount Zion and Israel will be delivered, and God's kingdom will triumph.

v.1 The vision of Obadiah. This is what the Sovereign LORD says about Edom

 

The sins of Edom

v.3 The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, `Who can bring me down to the ground?'
v.10 Because of the violence against your brother Jacob, you will be covered with shame; you will be destroyed forever.

 

Judgment declared

v.4 Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down," declares the LORD.

 

There will judgment for all nations

v.15 "The day of the LORD is near for all nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; your deeds will return upon your own head.

 

But Israel will be blessed

v.17 But on Mount Zion will be deliverance; it will be holy, and the house of Jacob will possess its inheritance.

  

    

Concluding Comments

 

•  A short and to the point prophecy against Edom who are condemned by the Lord for their pride and for the way they have been hostile to Israel (v.3.10-14).

•  Judgment will come upon them (v.4-9) and upon the nations of the world (v.15,16) while blessing will come upon Israel (v.17-21)
