Psa 92: Sing Praise
A
psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day.
[Preliminary
Comments: From the title it suggests we have an encouragement
to sing, praise and worship God on the Sabbath [v.1-3] as we joy
in the wonder of what He has done for us [v.4,5] even if stupid
people look to the wicked [v.6,7] who they think will flourish,
not realising they will eventually have to answer to the Lord
[either here on earth or in eternity]. The Lord IS God who is
always triumphant over His enemies [v.8,9]. He testifies to the
Lord's blessing [v.10,11] and concludes with a beautiful picture
of how the righteous will flourish [v.12,13] right into old age
[v.14,15]. A song of encouragement as well as exhortation.]
v.1-3
Encouragement to sing and praise the Lord
v.1
It
is good to praise the Lord
and make music to your name, O Most High,
v.2
proclaiming
your love in the morning
and your faithfulness at night,
v.3
to
the music of the ten-stringed lyre
and the melody of the harp.
v.4,5
Joy & gladness at what the Lord has done are our motivations
to sing
v.4
For
you make me glad by your deeds, Lord;
I sing for joy at what your hands have
done.
v.5
How
great are your works, Lord,
how profound your thoughts!
v.6,7
The foolish don't realise that evildoers WILL be held to account
[eventually]
v.6
Senseless
people do not know,
fools do not understand,
v.7
that
though the wicked spring up like grass
and all evildoers flourish,
they will be destroyed for ever.
v.8,9
God is exalted as the Victor over all enemies
v.8
But
you, Lord
,
are for ever exalted.
v.9
For
surely your enemies, Lord,
surely your enemies will perish;
all evildoers will be scattered.
v.10,11
The psalmist has been strengthen & blessed against his enemies
v.10
You
have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox;
fine oils have been poured on me.
v.11
My
eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries;
my ears have heard the rout of my wicked
foes.
v.12
A beautiful picture of the righteous people of god flourishing
v.12
The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
v.13
planted
in the house of the Lord,
they will flourish in the courts of our
God.
v.14,15
They will continue testifying to His goodness into old age
v.14
They
will still bear fruit in old age,
they will stay fresh and green,
v.15
proclaiming,
‘The Lord
is
upright;
he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness
in him.'
[Additional
Comments: Another of those psalms for building faith
as it is read out loud.]
