Psalm
47
For
the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.
[Preliminary
Comments: A simple psalm that lauds the Lord as ruler
over all things [v.1,2]. He showed His power in bringing Israel
into being [v.3,4] and so in heaven He is seated on His throne
as supreme ruler [v.5-7], the One ruling over all other rulers
[v.8,9].
v.1,2
Applaud the Lord for His greatness as Lord over all the earth
v.1
Clap
your hands, all you nations;
shout to God with cries of joy.
v.2
For
the Lord Most High is awesome,
the great King over all the earth.
v.3,4
He chose, delivered, and saved Israel
v.3
He
subdued nations under us,
peoples under our feet.
v.4 He
chose our inheritance for us,
the pride of Jacob, whom he loved.
v.5
The Lord takes His throne amidst noisy praise
v.5
God
has ascended amid shouts of joy,
the Lord amid the sounding of trumpets.
v.6,7
So join in and praise the King of the whole earth….
v.6
Sing
praises to God, sing praises;
sing praises to our King, sing praises.
v.7 For
God is the King of all the earth;
sing to him a psalm of praise.
v.8,9
…. realising He reigns above all who are subject to Him
v.8
God
reigns over the nations;
God is seated on his holy throne.
v.9 The
nobles of the nations assemble
as the people of the God of Abraham,
for the kings of the earth belong to God;
he is greatly exalted.
[Additional
Thoughts: A psalm that gives as the real perspective
of how things are – God is sovereign Lord over all things, including
all that happens on earth.]
