Psalm 125: God brings security for His people
A
song of ascents.
[Preliminary
Comments: In this sixth short psalm of ascents, the
pilgrim extols the security that the Lord brings to His people
[v.1,2] in the land He has decreed is holy, so He will banish
the unrighteous from it [v.3,5] and do good to the righteous [v.4].
A song of security in the Lord.]
v.1
Trusting God brings an unshakable security
v.1
Those
who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be shaken but endures for
ever.
v.2
The Lord surrounds and protects His people
v.2
As
the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people
both now and for evermore.
v.3
The rule of the unrighteous will not remain in the Land
v.3
The
sceptre of the wicked will not remain
over the land allotted to the righteous,
for then the righteous might use
their hands to do evil.
v.4
Lord, bless the righteous…
v.4
Lord,
do good to those who are good,
to those who are upright in heart.
v.5
… but banish the wicked from the Land
v.5
But
those who turn to crooked ways
the Lord will banish with the evildoers.
Peace
be on Israel.
[Additional
Comments: Trusting in the Lord is the one condition
for knowing His presence and His protection and His provision
and His peace.]
