objective of these ‘Frameworks' is to provide an easy-to-read
layout of the text in order then to use these individual verses
for meditation. To focus each verse we have also added in italic
a description of what is happening)
With psalms, different
translations confuse the matter for the person wishing to use
them for meditation purposes. For that reason we have included
three modern versions and note the following differences:
NIV ‘Shout for
joy'; ESV ‘make a joyful noise'; NKJV ‘Make a joyful shout'. All
similar – noisy praise
others ‘serve'. NIV ‘joyful songs; ESV ‘with singing'; NKJV ‘with
all very similar
love, mercy; faithfulness, faithfulness, truth
(call to the
whole earth to acclaim the Lord loudly) Shout
for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
v.2 (worship from heart joy expressed
in song) Worship the Lord with gladness; come
before him with joyful songs.
1 – what God has done
God made us and is our shepherd) Know
that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we
are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
call to give thanks and praise) Enter
his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give
thanks to him and praise his name.
2 – the character of God
God is good and God is love – forever) For
the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness
continues through all generations.
Notes: The twofold
call to come to God with singing expressing thanks and praise
is not legalistic but the natural expression of truly realizing
who God is and what He has done
