Daily Thoughts : September 19th

Lev 16:1 The LORD spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron who died when they approached the LORD .

This comes in a very sober piece of Scripture. Aaron's two sons have abused their position and have died because of it. They represented God to the people and thus the people to God and to do that they needed to be holy. This they failed to be! There was an accountability which these two men failed to understand. Those who hold responsible and high positions have a high level of accountability. When they represent God, there is the highest level of accountability. Accountability means there will be consequences, bad consequences, if we fail to live up to the standards of the Lord as we fulfil our role. That's why James wrote, “Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.” (Jas 3:1) Similarly the writer to the Hebrews wrote, “Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account.” (Heb 13:17) God holds leaders accountable.

A corollary of this is that if you see leaders going astray (unless you are a leader in relationship with them), leave them to the Lord to deal with. He will. You pray for them and ask the Lord to bring them to good. But be careful not to raise a wrong word against them. They are accountable to God, and you don't need to worry; He WILL hold them accountable. He did it with Aaron's sons and He did it with Ananias and Sapphira. Leave it to Him.
