1 John 5:13    I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

The writings of the apostle John, more than most, seeks to bring comfort and assurance. He is very pastoral in his old age. As he comes near the end of this first letter, he is quite honest and open: I write like I have so that you will be assured and have no doubts, you HAVE eternal life. Your future IS assured! It is a similar assurance to the one given in his Gospel: “Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (Jn 20:30,31)

Those theologians or Christians who doubt, simply do not accept these words. John is quite open about it. He wants each of us to know that when we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, our future is guaranteed. We have eternal life, life that continues on in heaven with the Father.

If you are a believe but doubt your destiny, doubt no more. Take these two sets of verses written by John and believe them. Read his Gospel and his letters and take in the truths there. Here is a man of integrity and wisdom and grace who knew the Lord Jesus and who testifies to him and to what he has achieved for YOU. Part of your salvation is eternal life, life in heaven with the Father. Rejoice in it!
