Daily Thoughts : October 11th

Lev 26:36 As for those of you who are left, I will make their hearts so fearful in the lands of their enemies that the sound of a windblown leaf will put them to flight.

We have said at the beginning of these daily considerations that we believe that whatever random page of your Bible you open, you should be able to be blessed by something there or learn something there! The beginning of this chapter has in it, “If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, I will…” (v.3). This is a chapter full of “If…then” things. This was God saying to Israel, this is how I will respond to you. This verse comes in a part of warning of discipline if Israel turn from God. Their tendency was to feel strong and self-confident, but the Lord warns them, if you turn from me, I will take your self-confidence away. The only reason we can have self-confidence is because the Lord is with us and for us, but if we turn from Him, then we turn from His protection and, worse than that, He will make us feel nervous.

The folly of sin makes us think we can handle whatever comes along on our own – until it comes! The Lord in His love, steps back and respects our folly and lets us stand on our own. Again, in His love, He knows we need some encouragement to come back to Him, to a place of security and blessings, and so He allows or brings a feeling of uncertainty to come, the awareness of the reality of how things are with us, alone and without God! That's what He does; He helps us catch a sense of the reality of our situation. The wise come back quickly!
