Daily Thoughts : November 9th

Acts 10:9   About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray.

There are some verses in Scripture that are packed with interest. This is one of them. The ‘they' referred to are servants of Cornelius who the Lord has told to send for Peter. It's interesting to ponder that God could have spoken directly to Cornelius about salvation but chose to do it through one of His leading apostles, perhaps so that the rest of the (mainly Jewish) Church would hear about it and know without a doubt that the Gospel was for the Gentiles as well.

So here come these servants, coming to seek out Peter at God's bidding, and here is Peter, completely oblivious to what is about to happen. He doesn't realise it, but as he goes to carry out his daily habit of prayer at this time, he is about to have a significant encounter with the Lord to make him fit to cope with these Gentiles who are about to arrive.

Next to the day of Pentecost, this is going to be, arguably, one of the most important encounters in the book of Acts. it is going to be the handing the Gospel over to the Gentiles. Cornelius is going to be the first of millions around the world who would follow into the kingdom of God. However, for the moment, there is no real clue about that; only the Lord knows what He has on His heart. Isn't that how it is so often? Life just carries on and there are no trumpet calls to warn God is about to move significantly!
