Daily Thoughts : November 26th

1 Chron 16:4 He appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD , to make petition, to give thanks, and to praise the LORD , the God of Israel:

I wonder if we sometimes look at some verses and just consider them very ordinary? You might do that about this verse but it isn't!  David has just moved the ark of God – which symbolised the provision, the power and the presence of God – to Jerusalem and set it in the Tabernacle or Tent of Meeting in Jerusalem. It is especially the thought that it is here that the presence of God is manifested that stays with David. The Lord is God and He is worthy of praise. In fact He is worthy of praise all the time!

So it is that David establishes a team from the tribe of Levi (who had been instructed by God to be the ones to serve in the Tabernacle) to be there throughout the day to serve before the Lord and pray for the nation and give thanks for all that the Lord had done for them, and to bring perpetual praise for the wonder of who He is. Only in this way, did David consider, the Lord would receive what was due to Him.

So how do we feel about the Lord? When we meet with Him, alone or on Sundays perhaps, do we realise His greatness and His wonder, do we give thanks to Him for all He has done for us, do we praise Him for the wonder of who He is? Only in such a way, perhaps, do we honour the Lord for who He is, only in this way, perhaps, do we maintain a right perspective.
