Col 1:22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation

This is one of those key, crucial verses that explain really why we are what we are as Christians. It is all about Jesus. Our problem was that we were separated from God by our sin. God cannot tolerate sin and so while we lived lives that were sin-orientated we could not come close to Him and He could not come close to us. But then Jesus came to the earth and, being God's Son, he died on the Cross at Calvary and there took all our sins, our guilt and our punishment. The problem of our sin had been dealt with. All that was required now was for us to receive this wonderful news and come to God so that He could implant His Holy Spirit in us, to give us the power for our lives to be changed.

Yes, the work of Jesus on the Cross meant that when God looks at us, He no longer sees our sin or our guilt or our shame and no longer thinks about punishing us, for Jesus has dealt with all that. Instead all God sees are people who are now holy in his sight, because ALL the negatives have been dealt with by Jesus. As far as He is concerned with He looks at us through the finished work of Christ on the Cross, He sees us free from any blemish, anything that makes us less than perfect, because all such things have been dealt with and taken by Jesus. More than this, as we hinted just now, there is nothing left for Him to think about punishing us so, just as Paul said, we are free from accusation because Jesus paid the penalty for all our sins.
