Daily Thoughts : November 18th

1 Sam 2:30c Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained.

In a word like this there is both comfort and warning. Let's take the warning first. God will not uphold those who disdain Him. Eli and his sons had disdained God. We look down on someone when we disdain them. Eli hadn't bothered to hold his sons accountable even though he knew that he should. He thought he could get away with it and that God wouldn't notice. The sons disdained God as they did their own thing with the sacrifices. They thought God wouldn't do anything. They thought less of Him. Whenever we put the Lord down in our estimation, we disdain Him, and He will not be there for us. Let's not be like that!

But the first half of the verse here, is a comfort. Let's assume you don't want to disdain God. Let's assume you want to obey Him, follow Him, live out your life as His child and honour Him as your loving heavenly Father. For you there is the total guarantee that He will honour you, and to honour you means to be there for you, to provide for you, support you, uphold you, bless you, protect you, exalt you. In all these ways your loving heavenly Father wants to honour you.

If you can catch this concept, that God IS there in all these ways for you today, how much of a difference do you think it should make to your day? With Him there for you, as Paul would say, who can be against you? This is a day for the blessing of God to flow. Receive it; enjoy it.
