2 Cor 1:20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God

This is quite an amazing verse. Jews sometimes say of Christians, well you seem to take all the good from the Old Testament but ignore the bad. Well yes, that is exactly true, but it is true because of what Jesus has done for us. The apostle Paul wrote, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.” (Gal 3:13). In other words, by dying for us on the Cross, Jesus took every negative curse against sin that is there in the Old Testament, so that now, as we live under the prompting of His Holy Spirit, God just brings His blessings to us.

Throughout the Old Testament, especially in the Law, there are promises of blessing for those who obey the Lord. When we came to Christ we gave him our lives and asked him to be both Saviour and Lord over us. We are committed to lives of obedience because that is what discipleship is all about. Now because of that, and because of all that Jesus achieved on the Cross, the promises of blessing for obedience are therefore our promises and we can expect the blessing that comes with those promises.

Each of those promises receives God's “Yes!” for us and His “So be it!” decree. That is what is so staggering about this Christian Faith. It is all about receiving the goodness of God because of what Jesus has done for us. It is not about us working, but about us receiving all that God has for us.
