Jer 49:16   The terror you inspire and the pride of your heart have deceived you,

Yes, Paul was right, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” (2 Tim 3:16), and it includes every verse of Scripture in some way, including this verse. This was part of Jeremiah's prophetic rebuke of Edom, and it comes as a warning to many today.

In certain parts of our nation and many parts of the world, there are two currencies in great supply: fear and pride. This nation prided themselves on their violence, how they had warred against other nations and wreaked havoc on them, and then returned to the security of their stronghold in the mountains. Pride welled up within them and they thought they were invincible.

There are world leaders, and leaders of big organizations who don't care what terror they inspire in the hearts of others. They are powerful and they think they are invincible. Well not quite! They are answerable to God, whatever they think. As they anguish in the eternity of hell, all of their pride, their power and their terror will have been stripped way. Indeed everything will have been stripped away. They will have been made answerable to God and the folly of those years on earth, will now be paying its price. It doesn't matter how strong you are, how powerful you are, you ARE answerable to God and what you do here today will determine what will happen after death. You are warned!
