Daily Thoughts : July 25th

Heb 4:13   Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

God knows. That summarises so much of what the Bible teaches us. The Lord knows our every thought. He sees our every act and He hears our every word. It doesn't matter if we are in a closed room or in the public – God knows. The New Testament testifies, “Jesus knew what they were thinking.” (Lk 6:8) and “Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men. He did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man” (Jn 2:24,25). In that, he simply reflected his Father in heaven. God knows us through and through.

The scary bit of today's verse is to whom we must give account. Not only does God know everything about us, He holds us to account – yes for everything we thought no one else knew about. He knows, He sees and He holds us accountable. What hope is there for us therefore? Surely we are doomed for our thoughts, words and actions are often less than perfect!

Ah, this is where we come back to the Cross again. If you ever wonder about the need for the Cross, come back to today's thought. The Lord knows and holds me accountable. How can I escape punishment?   Only through the Cross of Christ, only by calling upon him to be my Saviour TODAY, not just when I first came to him.  I need his salvation, his forgiveness, his cleansing today – for He sees me and knows!
