Daily Thoughts : January 25th

Isa 42:9 See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you."

When we are living in relationship and harmony with God, every day is a new day. You may think that sounds obvious because, surely, every day is a new day? In one sense yes, but for the unbeliever every day has to be a repeat of yesterday. Before we knew Christ we were stuck with what we were. Yesterday we considered the fact that we are spoken of as new creations in the New Testament.

That newness is because of the relationship we now have with Christ and that involves us being directed by him as our Lord, and being energised by his Holy Spirit. Now, because he is our directing and energising force, we never know what tomorrow might hold. Previously it could only be within our human limits; now it is a far as His will and His power permit us to go.

An example of this is moving in the gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor 12). As He leads so we are enabled to do what His Spirit does, which may be in the realm of revelation (word of knowledge, wisdom, prophecy etc.) or of dramatic change (healings and miracles). In other words He may lead us into areas beyond our natural capabilities, so that we serve Him and continue to do 'the works of Jesus' (Jn 14:12). We may not know what is coming, but He does. Often we only know it as He nudges us by His Spirit and we are led out into new ways, to do new things, things that glorify Him, things done by His Spirit.
