Daily Thoughts : December 6th

Isa 9:7  Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.

Two days ago we considered the previous verse about an extraordinary child who was going to be born. We noted that he was going to be a ruler. Now we are told more about this rule. The first and very significant thing to notice is that his rule is going to change – it is going to increase. In fact it is going to keep on and on increasing. In other words he is going to rule over more and more and more people. It will have a small start but will go on and on increasing.

Then he's going to reign from ‘David's throne', in other words over God's chosen people. God's people will be the ‘nation' over which he reigns, and as we said, it will get bigger and bigger and bigger. He will establish this reign, and then maintain this reign through justice and righteousness. He came and brought justice to the Universe by paying the penalty for every sin that has ever been committed. Wrong doing demands punishment. He took it when he died on the Cross.

The inhabitants of this kingdom have had their sins paid for which means they are now considered to be righteous. If they have no outstanding guilt, no outstanding punishment, then they are simply left righteous. This child is going to bring about this righteousness and lead and direct a righteous people. Justice will have been done and guilt and shame will have no part in this kingdom. Christian, that's where you are!
