Daily Thoughts : December 29th

Lk 2:16-18    So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.

The sky has gone dark again and the shepherds were left in the gloom that was only broken by their camp fire. There is total silence. Suddenly one of them leaps to his feet. The others quickly follow. They wend their way down the hillside in great haste. They come to the edge of the town, but where now? A stable? Where is there a stable? At the inn! They hurry round the back and find a light glimmering in the stable and there, yes, is a baby in a manger with a tired and somewhat dishevelled mother lying next to it, and its father standing nearby. This is the Christ? This is the one who has been promised to Israel for so many years? Can it really be after all this time? Can you believe that this tiny child in the straw in a manger in a stable is really the Promised One from God? What can a child from this background do? Can this child set Israel free?

But the truth was that an angel had said it was so, an army of angels had sung it. The angelic memory was still strong. We may not understand it but it's got to be true! You may not understand what God has said to you, but if it was Him, then just accept it. He'll work it out. He understands your difficulty. It's all right, it's down to Him to bring it about. He just wants your cooperation along the way, but it's His plan, so let Him lead you in it.
