Daily Thoughts : April 30th

Obad 17    But on Mount Zion will be deliverance; it will be holy, and the house of Jacob will possess its inheritance.

There are times in life when you wonder what is happening as far as God's kingdom is concerned. In one particular country you may look and observe that the Christian population is declining and you may wonder why God doesn't move sovereignly and bring revival. You may even be tempted by the enemy to wonder if Christianity is dying out, a passing fad. If that is true of us, how much more must it have been sometimes for Israel in the light of all that they went through.

Obadiah is essentially a short prophecy against Edom who thought much of themselves. Then this word comes: “The day of the LORD is near for all nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; your deeds will return upon your own head.” In other words there is coming a time of accounting for all nations, but then the Lord speaks through Obadiah about Israel : “on Mount Zion will be deliverance.” i.e. in Jerusalem deliverance will come. But he continues, “it will be holy.

Deliverance will come to Jerusalem because it will be restored to a right relationship with the Lord. He will be there and so it will be holy. Furthermore, “and the house of Jacob will possess its inheritance.” Because it is back in a right relationship with the Lord, it will be able to receive from Him what it is due, what He has planned from the beginning should belong to it. With relationship comes blessing, the blessing of God's goodness that He has worked for through His Son. Hallelujah!
