Daily Thoughts : April 22nd

Dan 4:2    It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me.

Without knowing where these words come from you might be excused for thinking them fairly ordinary, but once we see who is speaking they become quite extraordinary. They are spoken by King Nebuchadnezzar one of the strongest, most powerful, and most ungodly kings of history. The only thing is that Nebuchadnezzar had had dealings with God and when the Lord warned him about his pride he took no notice. So, to make a point, the Lord took away his sanity and he was cast out and ended up eating grass! In due season the Lord gave him back his sanity and it was then that he came to his senses and acknowledged and praised the Lord.

This is what chapter 4 is all about and it ends: “Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble.” (v.37) Nebuchadnezzar came to realise that it was God who was all powerful, not him!

Now if one of the most powerful men in the world came to realise that, shouldn't we as well? How often do people think they are powerful and invincible? There are business men or people in government with authority, who think they are secure in their power and they deny God. They need to realise that it only needs one word from the Lord and their power and authority will be removed from them. It is a lesson we all need to learn.
